Yollocalli Arts Reach is the award-winning youth initiative of the National Museum of Mexican Art. Since 1997 they have offered FREE arts and culture programming to teens and young adults like street art, experimental photo, and more. Now their journalism program is taking over the media through Wattz Up! a youth-produced weekly radio program on 105.5 FM, Lumpen Radio. Wattz Up! focuses on news and current events from a youth perspective with a sprinkling of hot jams.
Jennifer Galan and Gerardo Salgado Flores are journalists from the Little Village neighborhood who produce and broadcast live shows for Wattz Up! They help manage a team of youth journalists alongside Stephanie Manriquez, adult lead of the program. Together they write stories, conduct interviews, edit audio pieces, and broadcast live on the air. Jennifer is a first-year college student studying communications. She is very passionate about her community, Latinx issues, and chips. Gerry is currently studying computer science but plans to continue pursuing his love of journalism. You can usually find him, headphones in, watching old movies and snuggling with his dogs.
