A new Illinois law calls attention to postpartum mental illness

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately one in nine women experience symptoms of postpartum depression; One in one thousand women experience symptoms of psychosis, and up to four percent of women with untreated postpartum psychosis commit infanticide. A new law in Illinois allows postpartum illnesses like depression and psychosis to be mitigating factors in sentencing.
